Cyrano de Bergerac, Starring Douglas Hodge and Clemence Poesy, Opens on Broadway

Fast, funny and oh so French, Cyrano de Bergerac opens on Broadway on October 11 at the American Airlines Theatre. English actor Douglas Hodge swaps his Tony-winning La Cage heels for a suitably noble cape as the titular poet (with a nose for miles) in Roundabout Theater Company’s new revival.

Set in seventeenth-century Paris, Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac tells the tale of a renowned romantic who lends his gift of words to a handsome cadet in order to vicariously win over the woman who scorns him for his abnormally large nose.

In her Broadway debut, French actress Clemence Poesy (of the Harry Potter films) stars opposite Hodge as the beguiling Roxane, with Patrick Page (Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark) as the villainous Comte de Guiche and newcomer Kyle Soller as the dashing but dim-witted Christian.

Jamie Lloyd directs the production, which uses a new translation by Ranjit Bolt. The Cyrano de Bergerac creative team includes set and costume designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Japhy Weideman and sound and original music designer Dan Moses Schreier.

Cyrano de Bergerac first opened on Broadway at the Garden Theatre on October 3, 1898. Since then, the play has been revived 14 times on Broadway, most recently in 2007 with a production starring Kevin Kline as Cyrano and Jennifer Garner as Roxane.
